Initial Assessment
This bilingual (English and Polish) 30 page book contains 23 pages of scale plans for the early Jumo 210 engined 109`s (in 72nd : 7 pages, 48th: 14 pages and 32nd: A2 insert) , 5 colour profiles, an A2 2-sided pull out 6 view technical drawing in 1:32nd scale and decals to cover the 5 colour profiles.
The technical drawings are of the highest quality and show all panel lines and rivet lines. There are even drawings of the gun installations, instrument panel, seat and engine. These drawings are a must-have for anyone who is serious about accuracy and detail when constructing a model kit.
The decals are produced by Cartograf, are of the highest quality and cover all three main scales.
This is the 12th book in this series and, whilst this subject may be considered one of the more unusual subjects, what this review sample does show is the quality of this product.
If you need some really detailed information I would recommend this series of book as your first port of call as they cover a range of the more familiar aviation and armour subjects and this series will continue to grow in the future.
The five colour profiles and associated decals are for:
- Bf 109 A `Black 6-7`, Flown by Fw. Norbert Pingel of 2.I/88 Kondor Legion, Santander, Spain, August 1937
- Bf 109 B-1 `Black 6-34`, Flown by Oblt. Erich Woltke of 1.I/88 Kondor Legion, Spain, February 1938
- Bf 109 D-1 W.Nr. 2302 `White J-307`, Switzerland, June 1945; national markings
- Bf 109 D-1 `White N+5`, Flown by Lt. Joachim Bohner of 10.(N)/ZG, Germany, January 1940
- Bf 109 D-1, Stab I/JG 131 Germany, Spring 1938
In summary…
An excellent product that is squarely aimed at the modeller and will provide him/her with all the detail that is needed to get that model just right, at a very competitive price.
I would have given this particular product an overall 5*’s, were it not for the chosen subject.
That said, the other more popular subjects in this series such as the Fw109D, Spitfire and P-51, based on this review, would definitely warrant a well-deserved perfect score.
