Aircraft stuff!

Italeri Boeing ACH-47A 1:48th Chinook takes off…
Seen the cover of SMN this week? (You could hardly miss it!) Do check this one out when you’ve a few minutes. Les V is back on the case (indeed he was never off it!) with a tremendous super-detailed build of the very presentable Italeri Chinook. Basically Les is throwing just about everything at this one and what I love about this build in particular is that it illustrates very well the range of major projects that we cover here in SMN. The Chinook is a good example of a Feature Article (FA) – where we add aftermarket sets and detail. The staple diet of SMN is also Full Reviews (FR) where we try as much as possible to build from the box or as close as we can get to it, so that you get a more accurate ‘review’ rather than a detailed hybrid where it’s unclear what can be achieved by using what’s in the box. Both FAs and FRs are key elements of SMN.

So, while on the subjects of FAs, have you noticed the following that are running in SMN right now – all super-detailed builds for the more experienced scale modellers amongst you?

Airfix de Havilland Mosquito FB.Mk.VI 1:24th scale by Julian Seddon – an awesome super-detailed build. We’ve had a FR for months in SMN covering the kit but this is something special and JS is nearly finished – amazing skills

Wingnut Wings LVG C.I in 1:32 scale by Jim Balsom – Coming soon for all WWI fans is the amazing Wingnut Wings LVG C.I in 1:32 scale. Jim B is doing a fantastic job creating the wood grain effect for the fuselage using acrylics and Citadel Colour watercolours and having just seen the initial work you are in for a treat. Coming soon to SMN

Photo Reference Library (PRL) additions… DH Sea Vixen
You may have seen the de Havilland Sea Vixen FAW 2 added recently? A massive full walk around this one with full internal and external coverage. Of course this has been added to coincide with the forthcoming release by Airfix of their hugely anticipated 1:48th scale kit. I have been fortunate enough to see one of the final development models and we are in for a treat. Finely recessed panel lines, folding wing options, multiple stores, flaps options – it goes on – Airfix at their best I feel and we will have two of the first builds here in SMN – a Full Review and a super-detailed Feature Article (FA) a little later. Can’t wait!
