History…

The History of the Bismarck has (in my mind) been covered extensively in one form or another, so I’ll get on with the kit review….

First Impressions…

It’s small.  Ok, it’s quite large for a 1:700th scale ship; but it still looks small and fiddly to me.  This being said, the detail on this kit it remarkable I can’t wait to build it (although I still have a million and one other kits to do as well) but this is moving up the list.  All of the sprues come individually bagged, in the usual Revell box.  The instructions are the usual Revell fare, so annoying use of paint colours, and slightly cluttered at times….  But still usable.

Decals…

The decals look like they should go on alright with you preferred decal solution (if not a tad too thick), but care should be taken, as different decals are provided depending on what time period you intend to model your ship on. At this point I should make you all aware that there are no swastikas provided, and that you should source some (or raid the spares box) to recreate an accurate model.

The Kit…

Starting with the hull (which comes in two halves), the detail is well represented with only the smallest amount of flash present.  The only downside to the hull is the only option for a ‘full hull’ model; those whishing to do a waterline version will have to break out the saw and get cutting.  As I mentioned in my opening paragraph, the detail on this kit is outstanding, as you can see from the pictures even the different type of decking has been recreated (which I think in this scale is quite impressive).
