Construction of a 1:700th Photo Etch Scale catapult – page2

This is what the pin is for...
Applying glue

Next is where the small scrap of sanding paper and the pin comes into play, place a small blob of superglue on the sand paper and use the pin to carefully apply the glue to the joints of the P.E. part.

Bending smaller parts

The base of the catapult is extremely small and to use the bending tool is not really practical, so I adopt a slightly different method of folding. First remove the small part as mentioned above, then place the scalpel blade along the fold line and insert the blade provided with the bending tool underneath the P.E. then lift the blade until the bend is at the required angle.

Base finished

There are four small frames that need to be attached to the catapult launch rail; these were removed from the fret and folded in the same way as the base of the catapult. The folded piece was then held in the tweezers and dipped into the blob of superglue and attached to the launch rail.

Next the folded base was added just by applying a small amount of superglue, and then followed by the round base using the same method. The small wheel was attached to the rail using the pin to apply a small amount of glue then placing the part using tweezers.

Attaching plane carrier
The final step of the construction is to add the carrier for the plane. This is first bent into the required shape by holding the part in a pair of tweezers and using a scalpel to fold. The finished carrier is added to the launch rail using a small amount of superglue applied with a pin, and there you have your finished catapult.
