The Panzer Three was the true work horse of the panzer troops, serving on all fronts as a main battle tank until superseded by larger gunned vehicles. Nevertheless, various conversions such as the Sturmgeschutz III, recovery and ammunition carriers would see it soldier on till the end of the war.

The authors look at the subject from different perspectives with Dick Taylor giving a history of tanks and other armoured vehicle from inception to use in the Third Reich, setting the Panzer Three into context. Being used on all fronts including Africa this volume shows the importance of this vehicle in the early to mid-war years. The book covers development, service and the different Ausfuhrung (Marks) with clear descriptive text, diagrams, charts and photos.

The technical part of the book is written by Mike Hayton who is very knowledgeable on the Panzer III and we see a complete appraisal of the vehicle due to the recorded detail of the Tank Museum’s Panzer III restoration.

Of great interest is the walk round photographs both external and internal which show the vehicle in great detail which will be of great value to restorers, modellers and historians.

This is not a new book as can be seen from where it was purchased from, nevertheless it is a publication that you really should have on your shelf. It puts the Panzer III into its place in history as well as showing the technical detail. I like the separation of the historical from the technical and the easy stile of read .

Highly recommended
Bill C.
