So what’s the plan?
Well, apart from choosing the RAAF scheme that you see here, I wanted to try out another manufacturer’s 3-D pre-painted cockpit decals, this time from the Ukraine and Kelik (set: 72077). These look very nice although I have to be honest and say I doubt that this is the best choice of subject as little will be seen inside but we’ll see later in the build and the kit moulded detail is very good. The main reason for using them now is that I have just come across them and so ordered a set – they certainly look nice and work just like the Quinta 3-D sets and more of this later.
Initial construction…
The kit cockpit detail is absolutely adequate but as I’m using the replacement 3-D decals the raised surface detail on the kit side walls and instrument panel needs to be removed. Small modelling chisels are great for this kind of task – see the video.
VIDEO DEMO
The nice seat is assembled and the cockpit parts are mounted ready for spraying Tamiya XF-85 Rubber Black.

Hi Geoff, Re nose weight for models with little room for it – I have discovered tungsten putty (also called Dark Matter) for this purpose. It is like heavy Blu Tack and is ideal for adding weight to small spaces. It is used for weighting fishing line and can be found at fishing tackle shops, on Amazon and at Boyes department store. Finally, it was good to chat to you at the Lincoln show fairly recently.

Hi Paul,
That’s great intel and thanks for sharing. I will get hold of some and try it out :) Do an entry for the Techniques Bank too.
Good t chat to you too and do send across some pics of what you have done, always good to see what other modellers are getting up to with their projects.
Happy Christmas to you and your family
