Our thanks to Mark I for supplying our review sample
Introduction
I recently had a great opportunity to go to Brno Czech Republic and take the SMN stand with Andy B and show some of our fellow modellers over there just what SMN had to offer (read the full show report here).
That’s where I met a great guy from 4+/Mark I who asked if we would like to review this title from that stable. So here goes…
What do you get?
Well, quite a lot to be honest, for your money (£18.50 at Hannants, August 2011).
This modelling specific package includes many titles covering all kinds of aircraft, from the Eurofighter Typhoon to the Lockheed T-33 and several others. Format is A4 landscape and this volume contains 28 pages printed on high quality glossy art paper.
Essentially you get no-nonsense, focused coverage with quality all-colour images, captions all in English text; all-aspect colour profiles for RAF (X4), German (X4), Italian (X2) and Royal Saudi Air Force (X1).
Each aircraft is interspersed with walkaround-style close up images covering many aspects of the Air Defence Variant (ADV) and Interdictor Strike (IDS) ground attack aircraft.
The colour profiles are good for clarifying the camouflage patterns on all aircraft, something not always clear and especially so if your chosen scheme isn’t included in the kit box; so this package is going to appeal to a lot of this group of modellers.
Decals
This release has an incredibly comprehensive set of decals, covering 12 different Tornado aircraft from across all the worldwide operators. The decals seem to be high quality, in register with good opacity and the range of subjects is stunning. Great if you are into 1:144 scale aircraft modelling. With the neat little Revell kits available this publication is going to be popular.
Other scales of decal are on offer, so it’s going to be a good idea to check in with the Hannants website or go direct to the manufacturer for more info using the links in this review.
Overall…
Highly Recommended.
If we can get some decals in 1:72, 1:48 and 1:32, I will look to feature these in detailed model builds over the coming months.
Great stuff, designed primarily for us modellers. Now that can’t be bad, can it?
