- Chipboard base
- Old butter knife
- Polyfilla (interior DIY decorating filler)
- Airbrush
- Paint and varnish (as detailed below)
Base preparation
Before the model was attached to the base, the base was fully completed i.e. the surface where the ship was to sit was heavily scored with a knife to help the plaster (Polyfilla) adhere better to the chipboard and the shaped edging was stained and varnished. The edging was masked to prevent any paint and plaster getting onto it during the making and painting of the seascape.
