HD VIDEO DEMO!
Get great results and save time!
That’s why I often choose this method of cutting masks on the clear parts themselves.
There are quite a few videos and separate entries in the Masking section of your SMN Techniques Bank-Model Painting Airbrushing Techniques and more are planned – the idea as ever is to give you different options to try and experiment with so that you have choices when you come to this part of your build. Having choices invariably means better decisions if you apply what you’ve learned and that’s the case here – hope you enjoy this short video showing how I have applied this technique to my current build of the newly-released (end 2016) Airfix Douglas Dakota in 1:72 scale.
Here are a few photos of the result – as you can see the masking tape is peeled away to reveal perfectly sharp clean edges to the wind frames that I am after every time I build a model.
Key tips from this TB entry
- use Tamiya masking tape – it’s the best on the market
- use a new scalpel blade for cutting – a pointed end like the Swann & Morton No.10a or 11 are ideal
- use a new cocktail stick to gently press the tape into the corners of the frame – so that you can more clearly see the cutting line and use a sharp pencil to emphasise the lines if you find the cutting line hard to pick out
- take care when removing the tape with your tweezers to avoid damaging the clear window glazing.
Good luck!
