Start at the beginning (You know it makes sense)…
Well, I’m back after moving house and all the problems that come with it… The modelling desk is back up and running, and our illustrious leader (task master!) has started cracking the whip. So here I go.
The story of how I came by this kit involves a fellow reviewer (not mentioning any names…Les) telling me one I.P.M.S. SLAM club night to take it and build it for this magazine. Now this is so far out of my comfort zone I can’t actually see it anymore, and with that in mind, here I go…………
Start of construction…
I started by making an executive decision about the clear parts that sit behind the photo etch on the deck (keen eyed readers will note, they aren’t there). This was done as I don’t feel they will make much difference to the overall finish of the model. The P.E. ‘grills’ were cut off the fret and glued in place. The multitude of holes were drilled into the deck, when these are done test fit any pieces that are due to be placed in them, to save you heart ache later on. After all these holes and grills are sorted I then screwed the deck to the hull. I didn’t use any glue at this stage mainly because it’s such a good fit, but also if I made a mistake and needed to remove it again. There is a small area of deck that had to be fitted in-between the bridge and the cabin, this only required a little filler (this could be due to my ineptitude with glue or a genuine fault) and was quickly fixed.
The base was quickly put together, purely to accommodate the ‘in progress’ model, as I’m going to take a leaf out of Les’ book and mount the finished kit on a base of my own (I mean his) design but I’ve got to finish it first…..
