June 20, 2012 By

June 2012

Newark Air Museum is a VAQAS accredited site that is located on the former World War Two airfield of Winthorpe in eastern Nottinghamshire. Its diverse collection of more than 74 aircraft and cockpit sections covers the history of aviation, the aircraft on display include 13 (thirteen) National Benchmark aircraft; 34 (thirty-four) Significant aircraft and 21 (twenty-one) Noteworthy aircraft as listed in the National Aviation Heritage Register.

Extensive under cover displays including two aircraft display halls that house more than 48 aircraft and helicopters. In addition the aircraft the museum displays a diverse display of aviation artefacts and a collection of more than thirty aero engines. On site there is an excellent Café and an extensive Shop, which was once described as “An Aviation Enthusiasts Dream!”

Each year the museum organises and hosts a diverse range of Special Event Days, details of which are regularly updated on the museum’s website. One of the main events is Cockpit-Fest, which this year takes place on 16 & 17 June and early feedback indicates that this year is likely to see another bumper turnout of visiting cockpits and associated displays.

This two day charitable event, which is organised by the Newark Air Museum has been an annual event for more than ten years. Cockpit-Fest takes place on the museum’s site in eastern Nottinghamshire close to the county border with Lincolnshire; and attracts cockpits and visitors from across Great Britain and sometimes from Europe.

Regular updates about which visiting cockpits will be attending this year’s event will be posted on the news page of the museum website at www.newarkairmuseum.org Currently there are 13 visiting cockpits booked in for the 2012 event, including five ‘new’ cockpits being displayed at the event for the first time; these range from Hunters to Lightnings; an HS125 to a Twin Pioneer; with a Spitfire Mk1 thrown in for good measure, plus a host of associated aviation displays.
