Background

Geoff has already reviewed this kit, and built a version in more regular RAF colours, so I thought I would use the scheme shown on the box with invasion stripes. I gather from looking on the internet that this plane was an adaptable and dependable workhorse, but never achieved the same level of fame as the likes of Hurricanes, Spitfires, Mosquitoes and so on. A number of pictures show the aircraft quite grimy, reflecting high and constant usage, as many were on D Day and the months after. So the plan is to reflect that ruggedness by weathering it so that it looks used and dirty, but not battered. Having never attempted invasion stripes on a model before, this will also be an opportunity to find out how it’s done.

Construction…

At all stages of the construction I’ll be using a slow cure, cyanoacrylate glue instead of extra thin cement. Some of my early models using extra thin cement have come apart, and ever since I’ve been using this. I apply with a toothpick and it provides for a really strong bond. In addition, if used sparingly it can be used for applying clear parts to the fuselage and will not cause fogging, as extra thin cement does.

I’ll also be using Ammo of Mig One Shot Primer throughout the build as a base coat.
