Tamiya Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc 1:32 – build review

November 17, 2014 By Francis Porter

Review by Julian Seddon

Geoff has said everything about the engineering of this kit and I can only endorse those remarks. I have started construction with a view to improving (!) it a bit. Having said this I find very little to add bar some wiring, so far it is quite extraordinarily complete.

Once again it is the painting that is the challenge and as far as this level of close up goes, it is difficult to convey the effect particularly as so much time is being spent on areas that are not readily showing.

The seat was painted firstly spraying a base of desert sand and then an oil mix of brown red and a bit of black was brushed on, finally a very light coat of dust (matt varnish light brown and thinner- 50%) was sprayed to tone it down a bit ”

As I have said before, apart from wiring and a detailed paint job there is almost nothing to add. The side panels fit to the cockpit before installation and so here it is, almost finished, just a harness to put in.

All the elements need to be painted before assembly as it would be very difficult to access the inside parts later.
