Get this kit here now from Airfix
This was just a quick build as I needed a Typhoon to go with another 1:72nd build and it was a choice between this new Airfix kit and Hasegawa’s older offer. I needed this to be a quick build and Airfix’s less complex design meant that the construction process looked a lot quicker, (it was also a lot cheaper – less than half the price) and importantly for me this model included a stand that would allow it to be displayed in flight. Here’s a picture of the finished model so you can see how it turned out.

Background

Forming the backbone of the modern Royal Air Force, the Typhoon has been continually upgraded throughout its service life and is a far more capable aircraft today than the one which first arrived at RAF Coningsby back in 2006. Now a familiar sight in Britain’s skies, the Eurofighter Typhoon is the RAF’s current airspace defender and, whilst it entered service back in 2006 as a dedicated air superiority fighter, this fourth-generation combat aircraft has proven itself to be much more than this.
Now described as the world’s most advanced swing-role combat aircraft, the Typhoon has developed into a true multi-role platform and arguably one of the most effective combat aircraft in service today, equally adept at undertaking reconnaissance and precision strike missions as it is challenging the latest Russian aircraft incursion into British airspace.

Construction
The build starts with the cockpit. This is a very simple affair with minimal parts and the cockpit instrument detail coming in the form of decals. I was going to build the model in flight so the kit pilot figure was used. The detail is quite simplistic with no HUD unit but this kit is designed for beginners so this is no surprise.
