Initial assessment…

As the publishers notes say “ Aviation has revolutionised warfare over the past 100 years and this new pocket guide give the reader the essential details of 70 iconic aircraft which includes the Sopwith Camel, Spitfire, Messerschmitt Bf109, The P-51 Mustang and the F-4 Phantom. Drawing on Osprey’s comprehensive aviation archive, the Plane Spotters Guide uses detailed profile artwork to illustrate and aid recognition, as well as specification boxes to provide all the technical details”.

The Guide is paperback measuring 130mm x 190mm and consists of 216 pp with 140 colour illustrations with the various aircraft in a chronological order by date, i.e. WWI, WWII and Post war.

The book has at least one side view in colour of all the aircraft, with some of them showing the aircraft of some of the famous fliers in their distinctive schemes. The aircraft are described not only with technical data but also a very short history of operational use.

This is a great little book, to be published, on 20/06/2012 for an introduction into aviation for its cover price is well worth the outlay and it could be one of those books you pick up and flick through from time to time just for the fun of it.

Highly recommended

Bill C.
