Summary…
This is a great kit of a great subject and it builds beautifully. The brass additions with the exception of the prop guard don’t to my mind add much to the final build and I really can’t see the point in spending the considerable amount of extra cash. Others may disagree but for me it was time over effort and the end result wasn’t worth either in terms of an actual enhancement to what is an excellent kit.
The biggest issue with the kit is simply size. I have to say it’s simply too big to be built comfortably and after it’s complete is almost impossible to display or store and will be a nightmare to get to a show! This said I am delighted I built it and I hope I’ve done it justice. Of the four subs I’ve built for SMN this i feel is my best and I am pleased with it on the whole. Yes there are things I’d do better next time but my maritime work is improving and that to me is key.
So if you fancy a big project, in every way this is well worth the effort and is simply incredible value for money. I cannot recommend it enough. I hope I’ve captured the boat as it’s a stunning shape. Next up a Fletcher Class Destroyer……………..see you soon
