Lincoln and Newark Model Show 2010

October 29, 2010 By

Armour - Best of Show

Show report by Bill Curtis

This is a show I always look forward to, as it has for me the feeling of the friendliest show of the modelling calendar.

I picked Jim up and drove over to Southall in lovely autumnal weather and arrived full of expectation. On walking in we were greeted by the site of Geoff with the “Scalemodellingnow” stand and after passing over a model we moved on to say hi to the Lincoln lads who were at the other end of the lower floor space.

Throughout the morning it was pretty busy and it was good to see many familiar faces both in traders and visitors and to chew the fat as well as examine various items for sale. The various club stands were showing displays of models which were good to see and also discuss with the builders.

As the morning wore on so the competition tables filled with a good cross section of model subjects. As with most shows the aircraft sections were in the majority with some very good models being put forward to be judged.

As is usual the traders were generous with there donations for the raffle and thanks must go to them for this, as Ian and I didn’t have to twist any arms to get them.

The competition area was closed in the early afternoon for the judging and after some difficult chooses were made the competition area was opened up and the public allowed back in. There were some superb models and the list below is of the club members who took away some well earned recognition.

  • Tom, 1st for his FGR2
  • Sinbad, 1st for I-100 sub
  • Brian, 2nd for a king tiger
  • Neil, 2nd for Chinook
  • Les, 3rd for Hilland class
  • Andy 1st Hunter F6 and 2nd for Mig 15
  • Brian 1st for a 1/144 C-130

Later in the afternoon the raffle was drawn and against all odds I managed to get a book. After this the prizes were presented. S McConnell seemed to have a near clean sweep with the Armour (Afghan Graveyard) and diorama with some fantastic modelling skills on show, which well deserved the Armour best of show and the Mick Cawley trophy. The aircraft best of show went to G Bullock for a Corsair which had to be well deserved as there were some very good models in these classes.

With the day over, purchases and models back in the car and reflecting on the day, I think it was another hit and well run to which thanks must go to the organisers for another “Friendly Show”. Well done lads see you next year.
