Scale ModelWorld 2012 – The Best One Yet?

March 14, 2013 By

Media Release from IPMS
Scale ModelWorld, the annual IPMS (UK) international event, held at the Telford International Centre on 10 and 11 November 2012, exceeded all expectations this year. It was bigger, busier and better than ever – so say our visitors. ‘Best one yet’ was a refrain heard around the exhibition halls on numerous occasions throughout the weekend.

Just one of the three large exhibition halls used for Scale ModelWorld

Scale ModelWorld started with the arrival of a Royal Navy Lynx Helicopter from 815 Naval Air Squadron on Friday morning, kindly arranged by our friends at Airfix. It landed in the rear car park before being wheeled into the halls. Then came an AMX-30 Main Battle Tank, courtesy of Meng Models, as well as a World War II Valentine Tank and Dingo Scout Car, kindly provided by local vehicle restorer, John Pearson.

Then there were the 150 clubs, 170 traders and over 9000 visitors who came to the show over the weekend. The modelling competition run as part of the show attracted 999 entries from 21 different countries. More than 30 different nationalities were represented amongst the many traders and overseas clubs that attended, demonstrating just what an international event Scale ModelWorld has become.

Already the largest plastic modelling show in the World, Scale ModelWorld is set to get even bigger in 2013, as IPMS (UK) celebrates its 50th Anniversary. Over 100 traders have already re-booked for next year, many doing so before the 2012 show had even finished.
Plans are already afoot for some extra special features to next year’s show.

IPMS (UK) President, Paul Regan, said of the 2012 event “Scale ModelWorld continues to grow in size and stature on the international stage. We are attracting more and more traders and more visitors each year from overseas, which only serves to confirm the importance with which Scale ModelWorld is regarded within the hobby of plastic modelling around the World.”

Our thanks to the Telford International Centre for hosting the event once again and providing such a welcoming and high quality venue.
