GasPatch Henschel Hs123 B1 1:48 – build review

July 27, 2018 By Francis Porter

Full Review with Geoff Coughlin

I have very high hopes for this kit!

Have you seen the full SMN in-box review that I did soon after I picked this one up at the IPMS UK Scale Model World, Telford last November (2017)? I recommend that you do take a good look as this kit promises to be a very enjoyable build – well, let’s hope so and that I haven’t put the kiss of death on it!
In box kit review of the GasPatch Henschel Hs123 B1 1:48

The real highlights I think from that box-review are the outstanding instructions – really excellent: colour, clear, simple colour references and so on; apart of course from the excellent quality and tooling of the plastic.

The plan!

My hope is that I can do this model justice and build what’s included in the box – I mean, everything is there including a small photo-etch (PE) fret through to an excellent card jig designed to help you align the undercarriage and airframe – very impressive.

Even starting with the beautiful and sturdy box, you get a sense of quality when you look at what’s on offer here :)

Scheme 5, on the back of the instruction book showing an aircraft from the Eastern Front painted in overall Dunkel Grun (Dark Green) over RLM 65 Bleu (Blue) undersides and those RLM 04 Gelb (Yellow) theatre markings should make for a very nice-looking machine.

The challenge I think as far as this scheme goes is to create an interesting and realistic green camo that has some variation and weathering to make it look 3-D and authentic.

Spats or no spats?

There’s just something about the Hs 123 that means it just doesn’t ‘look right’ when the wheel spats are removed (to me – it’s just a personal thing), as they often were on the eastern Front to avoid clogging by mud.

So that’s the plan and I’ll be back soon with the first instalment.

On with construction…
