Revell Hawker Hunter FGA.9 1:32 – Paul A. build

October 16, 2024 By Francis Porter 9 Comments

The Plan

The Hawker Hunter is a much-loved classic aircraft and well-featured in SMN with some excellent build projects in varying scales. These projects cover the construction element in excellent detail so my project will join at the priming stage and focus on the painting and finishing work.

I’ll just add that I enjoyed every aspect of the construction process with this great kit and compliment Revell on the the level and quality of its surface-detail and general fit of parts.

Here we go…

The Revell kit is an impressive size in 1:32 scale. I found the fit of parts and general ease of construction made for a very speedy process to reach this stage with only a small amount of filling-work required.

The basic main airframe has received a coat of Mr Surfacer 1200 Grey Primer applied straight from the rattle can and gives a very smooth and hard finish.

The underside showing some good detail for a kit released back in 1986.

Mr Hobby Aqueous Acrylic RAF Dark Sea Grey diluted 50:50 with Levelling Thinners was applied for some pre-shading and initial tonal-variation overall.

Hello and thank you so much,Rob.
I’m really enjoying this kit.I’m sure it would be eagerly received by many if it was released again. The Hunter is a beautiful-looking aircraft but one I rarely came across ‘in the wild’.
My main viewings of the type were at the airshows.
Having built the Academy 1/48 scale rendition many years ago I’m certainly looking forward to adding this one to my collection.
    Best Regards,
    Paul.😉👍

    Looks good!
Top tip if I may: I don’t know how much weathering you were planning on, but the Wittering Wing were apparently very well looked after, and not too dirty or faded.

Hello,Michael – Thank you for your kind reply and feedback.
    It’s much appreciated.
I’ve done some ‘tonal variation’ to the colours but not going OTT or heavy with other weathering aspects.I’ll keep it subtle.
    Thank you once again.
    Best Regards,
    Paul.😉👍

That is one lovely Hunter Paul! You’re a master at attention to detail. What a pity Revell can’t produce kits like this any more. Rob.R

Hello,Rob – Thank you so much for your kind feedback.
It’s greatly appreciated.I’ve a lot to learn but with each project I try my best and at least reflect my passion for the subject.
As for the kit itself, it’s a ‘Golden Oldie’ but there’s great news –
Revell are re-releasing this kit with added new parts to make a ‘two-seater’ variant.I’m sure that’ll be popular!
    My Best Regards,
    Paul.😉👍
