Airfix Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat 1:72 – build review

October 5, 2020 By Francis Porter 1 Comment

Airfix Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat 1:72

Kit Ref: A02070
Feature Article with Geoff Coughlin

That man has done it again!

The Airfix box art by Alan Tooby is simply stunning and the box contents are none too shabby either, so all bodes well for this new project.

I mean… just look at it… wonderful stuff.

This project coincides with the release by Humbrol of their new acrylic paint dropper range. With around 80 odd colours available at the time of writing, there are plenty to choose from. In time I believe more colours will come on line and that’s great, because I like these paints.

And so a plan is hatched where I can try and complete this F4F-4 Wildcat using only the new Humbrol acrylic paints, so that should be fun. The plan is to show how to hand paint, detail paint and spray paint using them, so you should pick up some tips I hope along the way for how to use these products.

TOP TIP!

Before we get going, a word of advice… when using the Humbrol Acrylic paints use their own brand acrylic thinner, it works a treat and you won’t get any nasty reactions that can easily happen if you mix and match different manufacturers’ products.

The only addition that’s needed for this kit in my view is a seat harness and eduard has the perfect set in their pre-painted photo-etch range.
