HKM DeHavilland Mosquito MK.IV 1:32 – build review

September 24, 2015 By Francis Porter

1 HN Ac HK Models DH Mosquito BMkIV Series II 1.32
Reviewer’s Name: Dave Coward

Background

I`ve always wanted to build a Mosquito in 1/32nd scale to go with the rest of my collection of WWII RAF aircraft but every time I opened up the box of the Revell kit I have in the stash I look at the detail and that multi part canopy and shivers went down my spine and the kit got put back. You then wait for years for a decent kit to be released and what happens, two get released in the space of months. Being impatient I couldn’t wait for the Tamiya kit and seeing as the HK Models was a Bomber and the Tamiya a Fighter/Bomber I opted to get both. I wanted to get the kit done in quick time as I then wanted to concentrate on the Tamiya one so it was going to be pretty much an out of the box build with some minor extras – Aaron will be doing this kit with all the whistles and bells so watch out for build, he`s also done full in box review of the DeHavilland Mosquito Mk.IV 1:32 which you can read.

Construction headings

This will be a bit of a quick review of the build as I wanted to get it done for the magazine whilst it was `hot off the press` and let you see what I thought of it and give any tips. The instructions are nice and clear; the paint call outs are listed on a different sheet and are referenced to Gunze paints but the scheme is pretty standard for RAF fighters: Dark Green and Ocean Grey upper camouflage over a Medium Sea Grey lower – Tamiya produce these paints which is ideal. The interior is RAF Grey Green which is either Gunze H364 or Tamiya XF-71.

On with the build…
