Weathering and the final look
Tamiya Flat Clear XF-86 is perfect just thinned with Tamiya Thinner to create that satin look to the model. I find that their flat over the high gloss finish does create a good ‘metal-like’ finish that is also ideal for weathering with pastels that come now.
Here’s the model after applying some medium greys to the upper and lower surfaces (to slightly enhance some panels and add general grubbiness, wear and tear to the airframe).
Final assembly
The main gear units and wheels all slot into place neatly and then it was time to set the model on its undercarriage and hope it doesn’t tail-sit…
Phew!
Just the big twin drop tanks to go on after they have been weathered a bit more with some fine paint chipping using grey paint.
The canopy is well detailed and all I added was a chrome plated rear view mirror that is seen when the canopy is open. I also replaced the Head Up Display (HUD) with a thinner piece of acetate for a better looking finish. All the masking was removed and the canopy secured in place with a couple of dots of cyano and that, as they say, is that!
Here’s a few rough pics of my completed Luftwaffe F-84F Thunderstreak before I take the final gallery images when the outside light/weather permits.

Nice model Geoff, but I prefer to see it in Dutch colours…… ;-)

“Hello,Geoff” – The Thunderstreak certainly is a charismatic-looking aircraft and this is a superb tribute to the type.

Personally,I’m a great fan of the Norm72 colours and schemes and they suit this model so well.Another masterclass.
As Always,
Paul.
