Wingnut Wings Sopwith Snipe (Late) 1:32

November 19, 2013 By

Guns

The guns were added next. These could be replaced with brass items but with the PE sights added and cocking handles they look quite good as they are. I mentioned the shoulder straps earlier and these were now added and draped over the cockpit opening – note that this 4-piece harness was only applicable to the post-war options.

Red tail

Before adding the main wings a decided to add the tail surfaces as handling in order to attach these later on with the wings on would be a recipe for disaster. The rudder markings come as a decal and perform very well with a little Micro Sol but you will have to paint the vertical fin red and match this red to the rudder red. The aerofoil rigging was made from Radu Brinzan’s PE sets. These need a lot of care when you are cutting them to length, it can be frustrating at times and is very time consuming but the end result is definitely worth it. Again the control surface wiring is made from Lycra thread and this is looped through a short piece of Albion Alloys tubing then through the control horns and back through the tubing : it`s then pulled taught and a very small amount of superglue is carefully dabbed onto the end of the tubing to fix the thread in place.

The lower wings were attached next followed by the undercarriage; no problems here.
