Hello everyone and welcome to your first of what will be a regular slot from your Editor. This editorial plays catch up a bit and from next week I’ll be flagging up all the latest stuff you should take a look at in all the main areas in your first – no, the world’s first internet-only scale model mag!
Straight away, let me say a huge thank you to all of you out there that have seen and get what we are trying to do here at Scale Modelling Now:
Getting reviews and feature articles to you quicker and each of these will have many more images, words and pages than you’d normally get in a model mag.
An example…
of the 30 completed articles and reviews available to you today (ignoring the 17 in-progress builds in Build Now and new stuff in Here Now) the shortest review is the PCM 1:32nd scale Spit at 10 pages of A4 with 19 images – the longest is the Airfix 1:24th Mosquito at 58 pages and 110 images!
The norm is around 40 images and 20 pages of A4 – and yes, you CAN print them all whenever you want an extract or the whole thing as they are offered as PDF downloads
Really exciting times these and many reasons to be cheerful as that song says – you can see the content stats for yourself on your front cover. And all this in what has been effectively 3 months since our official launch at the excellent Milton Keynes Modelkraft show in February this year.
Some of the highlights you should definitely check out if you haven’t done so yet are:
In the aircraft pages…

- Tamiya Spitfire Mk.IX 1:32 scale – Two builds; one pretty much straight from the box by Dave Coward and an awesome detailed build from Julian
- Airfix’s extraordinary 1:24th scale de Havilland Mosquito, again, not one but Two builds – just look at Julian’s excellent work that’s going into his detailed build on this magnificent kit… follow it now in Build Now
In the armour pages…

- Just check out Bill’s fantastic CMK Pz.Kpfw 35t build in 1.35th scale – everything explained and illustrated to help you – I’ve deliberately let Bill tell it and show you exactly HOW he is doing his stuff – already 19 pages and well over a hundred images – a complete ‘master class’ if ever there was one from which we can all learn.
This is exactly what I saw as the huge advantage the Internet brings us – the space and technology to show what we love and enjoy about scale modelling – all without the pages limitations on space and clutter of adverts that often spoil my enjoyment of a good read! - And what about Andy Argent’s growing build of the Great Wall Hobby Flak 43 auf sWS with all the etch and metal additions? At the painting stage and looking better all the time and finally…
- A great project from the box – the superb AFV Club British CVR-T FV107 Scimitar in 1:35th scale – check out that weathering and techniques Neil has used to great effect – the final instalment is coming this week, so watch this space!
Mustn’t forget the maritime boys…
In the maritime pages…

Well what can I say, Les Venus has been prolific and his enthusiasm just oozes from every pore when you read his recent builds on the Revell GATO sub and Special Navy Type IIA U-Boat in 1:72nd scale – not to mention the awesome Fletcher Class destroyer that’s imminent in Build Now.
Exciting times too for the Techniques Bank – some great news for you here and I should be able to make an announcement in this space next week! Can’t wait…
