Geoff Here – 23 December 2010

January 7, 2011 By

Thank you! And a very happy Christmas and successful 2011 to all our subscribers and supporters

A great big SMN thank you to you all! Through your support and contributions we have had a very successful opening year and with so much planned for 2011, I am extremely enthusiastic about what we can all achieve over the coming year.

Let me remind you of what we have achieved together:

  • The successful launch of the world’s first internet-only scale model magazine
  • An awesome range of content – today standing at: 90 Finished builds; 20 builds in progress and 215 in-box reviews of new products
  • PLUS a growing Techniques Bank with HD video demonstrations and the launch of a NEW 60-Second video series set for massive expansion in 2011
  • 49 sets of walk arounds of real aircraft, armour and maritime projects assembled specifically to help you build your scale model projects
  • Lots of weekend Warrior projects designed to help you get back into your hobby if it’s been a while or you are new to scale modelling

So, a lot to be proud of and I have to say that I am proud, not only of what we have achieved with SMN but of every one of my fantastic Review Team that have put in so much to try and help SMN become the success that it is and will be in 2011 – thanks guys for everything, you can be rightly proud of what you have contributed.

2011…
So much more is planned and you have seen what we have done in 2010 and what we for 2011 will surpass what has been achieved already.
We will be doing a lot more of what we have in 2010 but below are just a few of the additional highlights from my New Year resolutions:

  • More 1:72 scale aircraft models and projects
  • More bi-planes
  • More 1:48 armour
  • More for the growing Subscriber Gallery – keep sending it in – have you seen what Big-E has sent in? No, then check out your SG right now – some great armour and aircraft stuff from Ian.
  • More Techniques for your Techniques Bank – all that is currently proposed (greyed links) will be live by the end of 2011, plus a whole range of new video dems – exciting times
  • Photo Reference Library – so much more planned for this area – you currently have 2,429 high res images across 49 subject areas – my aim is to reach 100 by the end of 2011
  • More show attendances including the IPMS Scottish Nationals!
  • Other great plans, but I don’t want to give away too much at this stage – because you and I know they are watching! And waiting…

Keep safe and have a superb break if you’re off and try and do something new in 2011 in your scale modelling – maybe a new subject? Or a new area – Wow! There’s a challenge for you, just like some of the Review Team have done in 2010 – just look at what Les Venus has achieved in his maritime modelling… and this is from someone who ‘doesn’t do boats!’ Really? I think not from now on!!

SMN taking a break?

Well, not too much anyway… we are properly back with all the usual weekly updates in the first week of January, but Francis is working hard to make the final changes over the coming days and then you’ll still see a bit of activity over the coming days, so just a small break over Christmas and New Year. After all, there’s so much in the pipeline

See you first week in Jan 2011
Best wishes

Geoff
