There’s no ‘right’ way and Upgrading

There’s no ‘right’ way…
I felt compelled to try and share with all of you my thoughts on that thorny subject – the ‘right’ way. I have had many, many conversations with modellers at shows who tell me about a ‘bad’ experience they have had with people they have talked to at shows they attend or clubs they have gone to where they’ve received a rebuff or negative response when asking how someone did such and such a technique – how sad, no truly I think that this is still happening on occasions and is truly awful and inexcusable.
he truly positive news is, that I think that this kind of reaction is not common, but that it still happens at all, is something I want to publicly deplore – anything less than a helpful explanation falls short of what anyone should expect.

I want to take this question of ‘help’ a whole lot further and it has always been a strong driver in me to share what I know and be willing to explain to anyone who would like to know, cares to listen or who asks at a show, in an e-mail or even a phone call (from time to time) what it is that I do and how I do it!
The fact is… there is no ‘right way’ – that is exactly what I want to develop and I think we are creating in your SMN Techniques Bank (TB) – a whole raft of different ways for you to try and achieve the results that you want and isn’t it great that there’s not one way of applying superglue… (check out Andy Bs recent entry); not one way of weathering and adding mud to the tracks of your AFV… not one way of undercoating Alclad2 metallic lacquer…the list goes on. I read Andy’s entry and I thought – what a good idea, using compass pointers to apply superglue exactly where you want it – and a use for all those Bud bottle tops! Ok, so I use a cocktail stick most of the time to put the glue where I want it – so what? I more often use ‘thick’ superglue gel – so what? We all have our preferences, but I am definitely going to try the compass pointers approach – thanks AB for that.

The fact is… if it works for you it IS ok! It IS right for you and that’s it. Great stuff and off you go.
