Introduction
To my knowledge this is the first time that this new kit from Trumpeter has been reviewed in the mainstream modelling press……..so no pressure then!
Moreover, my last foray into a 1:32nd scale Trumpeter kit; the AV-8B Harrier II still keeps me awake at night so it is with some nervousness that I come back to modelling aircraft after an 8-month sabbatical modelling maritime subjects!
Let’s get the irony out of the way first. Trumpeter has since its inception been criticized for it’s over emphasis of rivet detail. Unfairly I think as in most cases, Lightning aside, it is good to acceptable. But on the Flogger, which is riveted like an old WWII tank the rivets on the kit are barely perceptible! You just can’t win can you!
Opening the box is a pleasing experience (Geoff got to mine first so not so pleasing as it might have been!) but it’s literally crammed to the brim as usual with Trumpeter much more going towards every conceivable weapon load for the type. A quick dry fit showed it to be ok ish and I was deeply impressed with the metal undercarriage and as ever the clarity of the glazing. Decals look adequate but would benefit from replacement with less garishly coloured examples and more accurate stenciling.
But on the whole I was excited opening the box as a Flogger has long been on my to-do list in 1:48th scale but there’s really nothing much to play with just yet so this is a delightful surprise.
