TSR2 Anniversary Event

August 22, 2014 By Francis Porter

After several months of negotiation the first items have been delivered to Newark Air Museum’s site in eastern Nottinghamshire for the Tribute to the TSR2 Day, which takes place on Saturday 27th September 2014.

The first items that arrived on 19th August were a Mk 8A ejection seat, canopy and radar scanner, which have been taken on loan from the Royal Air Force Museum Reserve Collection at Stafford. These were followed on 20tH August by a set of TSR2 display boards from the Heritage Department at BAE Systems, Warton.

During the weeks leading up to the event further TSR2 artefacts are due to arrive from a variety of locations around the UK, this will include further significant airframe components.

The event has attracted widespread interest from around the world, with some display items having also arrived from the USA. Tribute to the TSR2 Day will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first flight of that iconic British aircraft the British Aircraft Corporation TSR2, which took place on 27th September 1964.

Additional aspects to the event will include: digitised extracts from the Roland Beamont interviews that the museum recorded shortly before his death; talks by a noted TSR2 author and by people associated with the aircraft; model displays; aviation artists.

The museum is still looking to contact other individuals or groups that might like to join in by displaying any TSR2 objects that they have. If you are interested then please contact the museum on 01636 707170, www.newarkairmuseum.org or via email at enquire@newarkairmuseum.org please mark your email TSR2 Anniversary.
