Geoff Here – 17 September 2010

September 25, 2010 By

What a week!

Boy, has this been a big week…

  • Our first subscriber survey – the replies are coming in as I write and some excellent feedback and ideas too – I’ll be publishing some of the key points and pinpoint actions for the future pretty soon in my editorial, so keep checking in.
Everyone has had a personal reply from me, and I’ve tried to pick up on as many of your points as I can. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to respond – it’s never too late, so please keep them coming. You will directly affect where we go with SMN, so it’s worth taking a few minutes to tell us what you think so far.
  • HD videos launched (see my last editorial)
  • Some big projects coming to a conclusion: my build of the Airfix 1:48 Messerschmitt Bf-109E-4; Julian’s amazing super-detailed build of the big 1:24th scale Airfix Mosquito (our second build of this great kit); Les Venus’s big Tamiya IJN battleship Yamato in 1:350 scale setting sail in Build Now and Dave Smith’s simply stunning Tamiya 1:25th Tiger I nearly complete also in Build Now.

Just take a look at the stats for these reviews and feature articles:
Airfix 1:48 Messerschmitt Bf-109E-4 – 66 images, 37 A4-pages and 4,104 words
Airfix 1:24 de Havilland Mosquito FB.Mk.VI – 108 images, 54 A4 pages, 4,011 words

You won’t get that in any paper magazine guys!

What’s on the way… new builds for SMN?

I don’t want to give away too much away but keep an eye on the Here Now area of SMN – some incredible projects will be up and running very soon – Trumpeter, Hobby Boss, Airfix, Tamiya and Zvezda will all have projects in Build now in the next couple of weeks.

Much has been written about the stunning 1:48th Zvezda Messerschmitt Bf-109F kit and what do we have, none other than Jamie Haggo making that and his debut in SMN – welcome Jamie, great to have you aboard on the SMN Review Team. Nearly finished and about to enter Build Now.

More 1:72nd scale models, more WWI and more in-between wars. Starting with the excellent CMR Hunting Jet Provost Mk.3/4. Starts in Build Now next week!

Maritime…

USS Wasp is back on track after falling foul of Government defence cutbacks – well, not exactly, but sorry for the delay and she’s being updated this week.

Les V has started that incredible build of Tamiya’s impressive IJN battleship Yamato. But this time with all the accessories thrown at it – incredible build this, so if you are into maritime subjects keep checking Build Now for progress reports.

Matt’s 80ft Elco is also progressing well – more PE to come, that’s for sure.

Ian Ruscoe tells me that an important update is coming for his Academy Perry Class Frigate – again, watch out in Build Now.

Armour…

Serious focus on some excellent 1:48th scale subjects coming to Build Now over the coming weeks.
I’ve lost a key member of the armour review team due to ill health and if you know of anyone who would like to have a go at submitting a project to SMN, please just get in touch with me direct at: geoff@scalemodellingnow.com

On the plus side we also have a new member of the review team almost in place and so I look forward to welcoming them to your pages of SMN.

1:35th scale isn’t forgotten at all, you’ve plenty to look forward to there: Dragon’s 15cm Infanteriegeschutz 33 auf Pz III is under way as is Andy A’s stunning Dragon M3 75mm Motor Carriage in 1.35th scale.
Non-German armour…

I am keen to feature plenty of non-German armour in SMN and with so many excellent kits of ‘other’ subjects, expect some great new additions soon.

See you soon,
Geoff
