More free reviews on the way!
…So you can see what great value SMN is…
If you haven’t already subscribed to SMN it may be because you can’t see how good it is. So, what we’re doing this week is giving you 3 new Finished Now reviews; one each for Aircraft, Armour and maritime projects. You’ll also be able to see 4 new reviews for Here Now – new stuff that’s come in for the three areas above and Tools and materials. All this should be available within the next few days.
All these reviews are typical with many others in SMN being longer and some slightly shorter.
SMN continues to offer our magazine subscribers astonishing value for money and I hope that you’ll join us soon. Check out the Subscriber Benefits area of SMN to get a good idea of all the benefits you’ll receive when you sign up.
HD Video demonstrations – update!
All shot and filmed now after a good day at the film studio. Now just the editing to go and we should have more definite info on when we can expect the first film for broadcast shortly. I’ll keep you informed.
Come and say hello! When can you see us?
Do come and say hello to us at one of the forthcoming shows we’re booked into with the SMN stand. Currently we are confirmed at:
IPMS Farnborough Saturday 18th September
IPMS Brampton Sunday 26th September
Expo 2010, Notts. Sunday 17th October
Scale Modelworld 2010 13th-14th November
Aircraft stuff…
Hasegawa’s AEW Sea King helicopter 1:48th build has gone to Finished Now. A good one this, with some useful how-to advice on using ‘Filters’ to get an authentic weathered finish. Well worth checking out.
Sea King is King!
It seems we can’t move for models of this great classic aircraft. It’s been in service with the Royal Navy for over 40 years now and still keeps going. Watch out for our next build in that superb RAF Air Sea Rescue Yellow scheme. Dave Coward is on the case and we’re going to try and get that elusive weathered finish to the fuselage…
Armour stuff – 1:48th gets going……
Yes, aircraft projects will be added to WW too along with the armour that’s already there. Clearly going to be a popular and growing area of SMN. Don’t forget my challenge to you all as well. Whether you subscribe or not (if now why on earth not! – tongue in cheek…), then send in your project and I will do my best to publish it in WW. Check out my previous editorials for info on how to do that.
Hurri up…!
The Airfix Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc will be in Finished Now very soon and also be available in WW – it’s an ideal project to get back into modelling with, or, just as WW promotes – a great subject to build quickly and also end up with a very nice model to be proud of.
Armour – stuff!
Lots this week for everyone into their AFVs…
Projects concluded and giving a real boost to your Armour area are:
Tristar-Panzer 38t 1.35 scale – Steven Guy’s quick and very nice build illustrates that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get good results. He shows you how in Finished Now.
Eduard M-4A3 76W Sherman tank 1.72 – Profipack – amazing what you can achieve in this small scale. I thought that 1:48th was small, but this is amazing. Etched brass and other details go to make Neil Ps finished project an inspiration. He shows how to create an effective display base too that you can interchange with your other armour models as appropriate.
Italeri-Autoblinda AB 43 1.48 scale – this is the first 1:48th scale armour model that we’ve featured and you will no doubt be very pleased to know that I plan to increase the number of these excellent 1:48th scale armour subjects over the coming weeks and months – so plenty to look forward to there.
Maritime – stuff!
The big news here is that Mat is back and running again. And off we go with his Italeri Elco 80ft PT Boat in 1.35th scale. It looks very nice too looking at the deck gun and other superstructure that has been completed so far.
More is due in this week on that Revell USS Wasp from Gareth and we are waiting eagerly to see what that brings.
Revell Fletcher Class Destroyer – all done now and ready for uploading this week. Les has done a fantastic job on the Revell model and here it is for you now. It just shows that you CAN turn your hand to different projects that are outside your normal area of activity. Some great weathering techniques on offer here – nice one Les!
Photo Reference Library (PRL) – updates all the time!
As you may know, all Silver (6-month) and Gold (12-month) subscribers get access to the whole of this massive scale modelling resource – currently standing at 28 detailed walk around – inside and out subject-specific images. That’s an amazing 1,200 images as I write. We have so much more planned both for the Aircraft and Armour areas.
Your ‘loyalty bonus’ – thanks to Chris who’s been in contact he’s come up with the great idea of also offering the PRL to Bronze (monthly) subscribers, once they have been subscribing continuously for 12 months. We are just working on the technical stuff to make this happen, but yes Chris – nice one, you’ve made that happen for all your fellow Bronze subscribers. But do watch that your subscription doesn’t lapse; you’ll need 12-months unbroken loyalty – thanks guys.
See you next week
