Why not tackle something new?

You will be familiar with Les Venus – he continues to contribute hugely to SMN, both in his fantastic support but inspiration to go on and try something new. Just look at Build Now and you’ll see that Les has the King George V, USS Hornet and HMS Hood on the go – unbelievable for a self-professed Aircraft man! Les’s HMS Hood is finished now and will probably have sailed into Finished Now by the time you read these words – if not, then that’s imminent.

Why Les is so good is that he just gets you all fired up and inspired to have a go at something new. Not only had we had a conversation about several new Wingnut Wings models we’ve bought to build for you and increase SMNs WWI content, but he’s well on the way with one of those and I had to get on with my Bristol Fighter F2b the second of my attempts at these excellent kits, but to go out and het the Albatros D.V.!

But it’s not just me, Jamie H has just finished what I think is probably only his second AFV ever and it’s a real beauty: Tamiya’s Panzerjager ‘Jagdtiger’ Sd,Kfz.186 (Fruhe) Production 1.48 scale

And then we have Tom Potter – certainly a self-professed aircraft guy if ever there was one (check out his Lanc in Finished now and others too), but he’s going to be building the awesome Revell 1:350th scale German Battleship Tirpitz – awesome. But guess who couldn’t wait to get started on his half of that particular project? Les – his impressive build of Revell’s other release, the Bismarck will not be long coming to Build Now – watch this space.

More techniques – 2 more HD Video Demos added to your Techniques Bank

Really pleased to be able to offer you 2 more and 3 more are on the way in the next couple of weeks. I want to give you what you would like in terms of these video dem0s, so what do you want to see everyone? Just e-mail me your ideas and wants and I’ll do the rest. We have a great team and while we might all be part-time or volunteers there’s not much we couldn’t bring together in terms of know-how and skills to make it happen.

You just need to ask!

Scottish IPMS Nationals – next week! Can we meet you?

Check out SMNs Events Page to see all the news and click on the show link to find out all about it – one not to be missed and we will be there! Can’t wait to meet all of you guys north of the border. We’ll be there all weekend so please do come over and say hello on the SMN stand.

Thought for the day

Last weekend we attended the excellent IPMS Shropshire Modellers model show at RAF Cosford and what an excellent event it was. Well organised and well laid out – it was huge, spread across 4 hangars and a beautiful day to boot – superb. One not to miss in 2012 if you couldn’t make it this year.

Just as we about to pack up a guy came over and we had a great chat about SMN – he hadn’t heard of us yet like many modellers we talked to (hence the show attendances) and he seemed keen on the mag content and that’s great and then he said “how much for a year?” I said “42 pounds and don’t forget that will equal giving you SMN at £3.50 per week for the next year, but don’t forget, you get all we’ve ever published over the past 14 months for your £42.00 PLUS all we are going to publish for the coming YEAR”. He says “ So I get all that for £42?” answer, “Yes”. “Where do I sign up – that’s unbelievable”.

Absolutely true!
Back soon…
Geoff
