Prep for primer
Allowing a full day for the white to dry hard, the wheel wells and cockpit are masked off, ready for the primer to follow…
AK’s Grey Primer and Microfiller is very good and can be used as a primer for any kind of paint to follow…
And gives a very nice smooth finish…
Undercarriage
It can be good to add some details to the undercarriage units and those supplied by ZM are good but will benefit from a little work. One of the things that can look good is to add the locking clamps that are fitted to most F-4s when parked up. These are usually painted bright red with Remove Before Flight (RBF) tags attached. The latter will come later so here’s how I do it…

Brake lines come from fine lead wire from ASK and small details from coloured metal foil to represent the placards that show up on reference pics…
The tyres and wheel hubs are separate and this makes painting and weathering easy enough – just some pastel chalk on the tyres to help represent the rubber colour all over Lifecolor Tire Black.

Loving this build Geoff, can’t wait to see it in camo, also enjoying seeing yr use of Perfect Plastic Putty…. certainly useful on my Spit XIV laminar flow designs conversion… I, m an absolute tyro with conversions but nice to push the boundaries occasionally

Hi Geoff, great job with the colour scheme ,and I’m really impressed with the results You get with the Hataka paints, great stuff.
If You do suffer with the Blu-tack marking the paint, try using a very slightly damp microfibre cloth ,and wipe over the affected area, the marks usually come straight off.
