Revell Land Rover Series III LWB 1:24- build review

August 21, 2020 By Francis Porter

Revell Land Rover Series III LWB 1:24
Full Review with Geoff Brown
Here’s a quick look at how she turned out…

Revell Land Rover Series III LWB 1:24

Geoff C has done an in-box video review of this kit and so if you’ve not seen the box contents in full, take a look.

This model was announced back in 2018, but it took until late 2019 for it to become available. On a few forum there was all sorts of speculation that it was going to be a re-release of the old Esci Land Rover, but no, this is a completely new tooled model. Unlike the older Esci kit, this is a full detailed kit with engine and gearbox and an opening bonnet, luckily I was asked to build this review model, which was again supplied by Revell U.K.

As with all of my builds, before commencing on any model, I always read through the instructions to see if any parts can be fitted together before painting or to see if there are any incorrect colour call outs. There are a few, including a few totally incorrect parts supplied that Revell really should have done a little more research on, parts number G20 should be cut off the parts tree and thrown away, Land Rover never made a left hand drive gearbox and so the transmission tunnel only ever came in right hand drive configuration, even if the vehicle was built as a left hand drive.

The colour call out for the engine block (Iron) is incorrect, the Land Rover 6 cylinder petrol engines were supplied painted in a medium blue, section 22 and 23 of the instructions showing the hand brake for the left and right hand drive options should be the other way around. If you’re building it as a LHD vehicle follow #23 and #22 for the RHD option, not as Revell instruct you to do.

Sections 24 & 25 shown the options for placing the gear levers for both LHD and RHD options, ignore section # 24, it’s totally incorrect, follow section # 25 for both LHD and RHD options, again, Land Rover never made a LHD gearbox layout for any Land Rover.

Colour call out for a few other parts are again totally incorrect if you’re looking for a factory fresh model, the rear chassis cross member, which is moulded as part of the body should be masked off and painted gloss black, not aluminium as suggested. Part # I71, the rear seat grab handle should be painted in a light gloss grey, not satin white as suggested.
