SMN ‘Meet the Team’ Questions
What first attracted you to Scale Modelling?
That’s a good question. I suppose that it is the challenge that modelling has provided me and the fun of building many types of aircraft, ships, tanks, vehicles etc. Due to heart problems it is now my main source of enjoyment – but then it has been for many, many years.
How long have you been scale modelling for?
I have been scale modelling for as long as I can remember. I think that my dad introduced me to it when I was very small and I just kept on going. Not really improving my skills but just for the fun of building something up and slapping some paint on.
Specialist area of Modelling?
Is there a specialist area in this hobby? I just really like building all sorts of stuff for the fun and the challenge.
I like large scale stuff – 1:35 and upwards. I hate the small fiddly tiny kits I started on. Too small for me now!
What is your favourite real subject of all time (aircraft, armour or maritime)?
That is a good one, Geoff. I suppose that I don’t really have a favourite real subject as is, but the late WWII German armour is one that I just love to get my hands dirty with!
The best thing you’ve ever built?
Trumpeter’s 1:32 Swordfish Mk1
And finally: Most memorable Modelling disaster?
Spending ages on building Revell’s 1:32 Arado seaplane and entering it into a competition having spent lots of time getting the colours 100% shade matched to original chips and then hearing a judge dismiss it for “incorrect exterior colours!”
I will never enter another competition again!

How long have you been a reviewer for?
Geoff will know this better than me, but for most of this year! (2012)
What made you get involved with SMN?
Good question. I have been in this hobby for a very long time and have seen so many changes in design and production and build so many kits I thought that getting involved with SMN would give me the chance to show off my work and provide honest reviews of model kits as well as learning some more stuff myself!
What’s your favourite thing(s) about SMN?
The honesty and humour of the reviewers, staff and those who read what we put down!
Favourite SMN review?
All of them!!!
Sum yourself up in no more than five words.
Fun, Humorous, open, honest and err…. Err… fun?
Biggest hobby/hobbies outside of Scale Modelling?
Rebuilding WWII armour back to original working order. I have several dozen items on the go here, but least said soonest finished!
What I put here will make my heart specialist go bananas….. so I will put….. Fish and chips!
Three famous people who you admire
Admiral Nelson, Duke of Wellington, HM the Queen
And finally…tell us a (clean) joke…
I don’t know any clean ones!
