Modelling

What first attracted you to Scale Modelling?
Always been a fan of cars, growing up watching rallying and touring cars, helping out friends and family working on their personal cars, even trained up to be a mechanic, and then finding the scale car kits, being able to bring ideas and dreams to life as such, just in 1:24 scale.

How long have you been scale modelling for?
I have been scale modelling for 5 years by the time Christmas ’23 comes around.

Specialist area of Modelling?
Japanese 1:24 cars

Preferred Scale?
1:24

What is your favourite real subject of all time (aircraft, armour or maritime)?
My favourite subject has to be Japanese cars, from rally, through to JGTC or even the JDM area of vehicles. Especially Nissan Skyline GT-Rs, ranging from the first GT-R in the form of the Skyline 2000 GT-R (the ‘Hakosuka’) from the early 70s, through to the 90s and 00s, and I think this shows, as out of 85+ built models, almost 30 are variations of GT-R’s

The best thing you’ve ever built?
My personal favourite model, it’s a hard one, there’s been a few I have built and have a special display of their own. Can I just say a GT-R? That’ll cover the whole display ha-ha! I think it has to be the Tamiya Skyline R34 GT-R Z-Tune, painted in a colour shift paint.

And finally: Most memorable Modelling disaster?
Unfortunately, it has to be the Fujimi Ferrari F40 LM. A beautiful looking car whose looks never age, but sadly with the kit, decals didn’t match the parts, parts were the wrong shape or size, fitment was off, and some parts even went in the bin. Such a shame.

Scale Modelling Now

How long have you been a reviewer for?
Roughly 2 months (September 2023)

What made you get involved with SMN?
I was fortunate enough to have been invited by Geoff, where we are both members at the local model club. Thank you Geoff :)

What’s your favourite thing(s) about SMN?
Honestly, all of it! Although I don’t build tanks, armour, aviation etc, I really appreciate and fully understand the amount of work that goes into those models, and I absolute LOVE seeing the great works of art by all.

Favourite SMN review?
Has to be the Review from Dave Coward and his Aoshima McLaren F1 GTR 1997 Pre-Season Testing Long Tail 1:24. From a non-vehicle builder, produced a stunning piece of work. And I have always wanted to build one of those kits, more so after seeing that review.

About You…

Sum yourself up in no more than five words.
Helpful, excitable, enthusiastic, friendly & meticulous

Biggest hobby/hobbies outside of Scale Modelling?
Spending time with my wife, son and dog, friends and family. Playing on my games console, mountain biking and football.

Favourite food/meal?
Asian, mainly Japanese, love sushi!

Three famous people who you admire
As a young boy growing up in the 90s who loved playing football, my idol was Ian Wright!
Colin McRae for the sheer determination and no fear approach to racing.
And finally, my old man. He may not be famous around the world, but he’s famous enough for me, my biggest idol.

And finally…tell us a (clean) joke…
I’ve got a great joke about construction, but I’m still working on it.
