In-Box Browse with Julian Seddon (April 2026)
At last this is in my hands!
I am going to write a short article before setting out all the photos of the kit box contents, instructions and sprues.
At this stage I can only comment on the kit straight out of the box so I will let the visuals largely speak for themselves.

Sprues
There are three boxes of sprues along with the rest that are all packaged in cellophane. The clear parts (three sprues) are very impressively clear. Mind you there is a lot of glass in this aircraft!
The moulding is impressive.

The instructions
You can see, below, that there are 45 pages. They do look detailed but I will be starting construction soon so I will await with interest to see how good they are. I am expecting a lot!!
Oil Canning
By now anyone interested in this kit will have heard discussions about the oil canning (that’s the uneven look to the surface of the wings and fuselage). Some parts look like an elephant’s skin!
Having heard and read a lot of these I have looked at a great many pictures of wartime Heinkels and I have to say I have seen none with the level of damage to the skin of the kit aircraft.
The Heinkel 111s during wartime service were bought into service off the production lines and therefore in new condition, a lot were destroyed in service, the remainder, by and large, were scrapped. A few survived. I am not sure if the aircraft used in the “Battle of Britain” movie were built later for Spanish service.
I imagine that, if they used an aircraft on which to base the design of the kit, it must have been an old, manhandled, museum example. However, as an exercise in the developing art of oil canning etc. It is very impressive and maybe a good coat or two of paint will reduce the severity of it.
At this stage that is all I am going to say about the kit. I have photographed everything in the box. Please excuse the pages of the instructions not being flat but I wanted to keep the book in one piece.
