In Summary
When I first saw this model I knew I had to get one as the finished model would be a real show stopper. My biggest problem was which one to get as I really liked the idea of a natural wood finish but the dazzle scheme also screamed out to be done so there was only one thing to do – build both!! With that in mind what you will get very soon is a build of both kits – I have no idea where I am going to display them though!!
Back to final thoughts on the kit; it’s another top quality product from WW that only needs rigging material to complete it so no need to spend a fortune on aftermarket extras. That said it is expensive and may well be out of many peoples’ price range but for me I broke my own rule of what I would spend on a model as I just had to have one (I didn`t buy two as Geoff got me one – this version!!). £200+ is a lot but I have known some modellers end up spending a lot more than this on aftermarket parts for a kit, at least this is an almost out of the box project. Is it worth it though? Well that depends on how much you are interested in the subject and how much you are prepared to spend.
Have no doubt this is a top quality model right across the board from moulding to instructions to decals but if I looked at it from a purely unbiased point of view I have to question its value for money; I can’t see twice as much plastic as you would find in a 1:32 Tamiya Corsair but who else would have been prepared to produce a model of this aircraft in this scale?
I suppose ultimately, WW must see a market for this subject even at this price and I am one of those modellers that couldn’t resist. Overall a fantastic kit of a unique subject but at a price that only those that really want one will be prepared to pay for.
