So what’s in the box
Well let’s have a close-up of that stunning box top artwork, reminiscent of the days of old Airfix. The picture depicts the example offered, Serial ZA712, Tail Code (AT) Alpha Tango of 27 Squadron based at RAF Odiham in 2011. Incidentally this aircraft was much favoured as the Chinook Display aircraft, so you have in all probability seen it in the flesh, so to speak, albeit with some nice display paint scheme.
The lid and tray type box is not that sturdy, which is typical of Italeri. Luckily my example was well packed and no damage was found to the plastic parts, although some parts had come off the sprues and the box did take a little beating.
Inside are three sealed packages containing seven sprues, and one with the clear parts further sealed.
So let’s run through the sprues… Sprue A has all the interior cabin, bulkheads, cargo ramp and floor plus the engine cowls.
Cabin sound proofing detail is well represented on the sides and roof and the floor has detail for the cargo tie downs.
The cockpit bulkhead also has soundproofing and circuit breaker detail and on the cabin side some avionics and air conditioning equipment are exposed.
On the actual aircraft this equipment would be behind further soundproofing and it could be easily replicated by rubbing some tinfoil over the soundproof pattern and cutting to shape, however it would be a shame not to be able to see this detail, for the sake of accuracy.
At the rear of the cabin the cargo ramp area walls have raised detail, but also some injection pin marks that will need attention.
The cargo ramp is also as well detailed as the cabin floor.
